...saying the pledge? For the past couple years i havn't said the pledge and no teacher has ever had a problem with it. Then when the new trimester started my gym teacher yelled at me because i did not stand and say the pledge. After a couple days he sent me to the office and i had to talk with the principle. They both say that i am being disrespectful(and i know many of you will probably agree)but i have my own reasons for not standing and saying the pledge. i just want your input on the situation. thanks, and sorry if my spelling is bad.

It would be hilarious if you would have stated your 'reasons' for not saying the pledge.

well maybe that your teacher/principal, think this way: they are americans and they're probably 10th generation or something. and because this is america, everyone should say the pledge, maybe. They find it disrespectful not to stand for freedom. It's weird, because it's freedom of speech if you don't want to say the pledge, so you really can't get in trouble for not saying it because that's in violation of your constitutional right.

You have the right to not say it, this is America.

Although, I'd probably just say it just so I wouldn't have to waste my energy trying to fight the authority at school, which could be hell.

Agree with the lyrics or not, not saying it is pretty disrespectful. The point is to show your appreciation for what the country has done for you. Like the country or not, it has done a lot for you, the least you can do is support it.
